La Obra del Siglo plot
The Electro-Nuclear City was once part of an ambitious Russian-Cuban venture to build the Caribbean's first nuclear power plant in Juragua. But with the fall of the Soviet Union, everything here came to a complete standstill. Decades later, the 'project of the century', as it was called, is still unfinished and the huge dome towers like a totem pole above the desolate residential barracks. Men from the anti-dengue mosquito control service come to spray an apartment. There live three Cuban men - son Leo, father Rafael, grandfather Otto - who are forced to live together due to circumstances. It is difficult for them; Otto is obsessed with his meager material possessions, Rafael has been unemployed with no job prospects since the construction of the nuclear power plant was shut down, Leo is back because his girlfriend broke up with him. On television they see the arrival of the Cuban delegation at the Olympic Games in London. The grandfather has a goldfish, Benjamin, the only one who can breathe underwater.
