Summer 1943. Nineteen-year-old Brando arrives in New York with only a few dollars in his pocket. He dreams of becoming a great actor. Eleven years later, after roles in films such as 'A Streetcar Named Desire', 'The Wild One' and 'On the Waterfront', Brando was considered the most important actor of his generation. But the road to the spotlight was fraught with neuroses and a great penchant for self-destruction.

Extremely mediocre documentary about a figure from which something can be learned. Also a bit too short anyway. His early years are depicted in quite a lot of detail, after which he quickly jumps forward in time, with the exception of the year 1972. Afterwards he moves forward at breakneck speed, to be dealt with quickly.

I think this documentary is sincere in its analysis of the actor and man Marlon Brando, the man I especially admired in "On the Waterfront", later in "The Godfather" and certainly also remembered "The last Tango of Paris".
The man I now know for his idiosyncrasies, his ambitions and indifferences, his lavish lifestyle when things went well, his deep crisis when things went seriously wrong and the resulting long, regrettable absences.
