The Rookie plot
"America's newest laugh-makers!"
1945. Thomas Patrick Noonan is an intern at a radio station who receives a call from the military to enlist for military service. But the Second World War has just ended! Still, Thomas insists that he must complete his military service. Due to a Pentagon error, Tommy receives his basic training in a decommissioned military facility that is being kept open especially for Tommy. This is much to the chagrin of Sergeant Peter Marshall, who has to cancel his leave and with it his marriage to the beautiful Lili Marlene, a well-known movie star. Tommy falls in love with Lili and Lili's agent thinks it's a great publicity stunt if Lili pretends this love is mutual. Sergeant Peter of course does not accept this and does everything he can to win Lili back. But he only makes it worse.
