On May 1, 1999, sixteen-year-old Marianne Vaatstra was raped and found murdered in a meadow near Veenklooster in Friesland. The Netherlands is in turmoil, and the police are using all their might to track down the perpetrator. This search lasted thirteen years. The accusations, the arrests of suspects, the press conferences and the very first DNA relationship investigation, and the summary proceedings that Peter R. De Vries and the next of kin filed against the State are discussed. On the other hand, this sad case has also resulted in a breakthrough in Dutch legislation, which means that other murder cases can now be solved more quickly.
