Together with Geert Mak, the VPRO is once again touring Europe and European history. The new series picks up where the previous one left off: in 1999. The optimism of the turn of the century gave way to fear and confusion after the attacks on the Twin Towers, the credit crisis, an increasing influx of refugees and a deteriorating relationship with Russia. But can you recognize history when you're in the middle of it? What if nobody knows how it will end?
