Self-proclaimed omnivore and culinary journalist Joël Broekaert takes the viewer on an adventurous investigation into the world and the history behind the five basic flavours. Joël dedicates his life to everything that has to do with food, tasting and taste. But what exactly are sweet, salty, sour, bitter and umami? Why do those flavors exist? Why do we taste them? Why are we always looking for sweets, why did we start eating bitter and why was salt so scarce in the past?
