Mystery 101 plot

Amy Winslow specializes in crime fiction and is also the daughter of Graham Winslow, the author of acclaimed crime mystery novels. She becomes head of the literature department at Elmstead College in the small town of Garrison. Discovering that crime fiction has its roots in real life, Amy becomes involved in certain crime cases in Harrison and helps solve them. Her involvement in this does not go down well with Detective Travis Burke at first, but later he will come round and appreciate her assistance.
