Kingsman star Taron Egerton has revealed that he has already had a meeting with Marvel executives about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and has his sights set on playing Wolverine.
The role has been played by Hugh Jackman for over 20 years starting with X-Men in 2000, while his last appearance was in Logan.
At the conclusion of Logan, it seemed that the character arc was completed for Jackman, who has expressed apprehensiveness previously about returning to the role, albeit not ruling it out.
It is widely expected that the X-Men, including Wolverine, will enter the MCU sooner rather than later, which means decisions will have to be made on casting.
One man who wants a shot at playing Logan / Wolverine, is Egerton.
"I don’t think it would be wrong to say that," he told the New York Times.
“I’d be excited but I’d be apprehensive as well, because Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it.
“Hopefully if it does come around, they’ll give me a shot."
Egerton and Jackman worked together on British comedy Eddie the Eagle previously.
Will there be a Kingsman 3?
Egerton is most famed for his roles as Elton John in Rocketman and, of course, as Eggsy in the Kingsman series. He has played the part in Kingsman: The Secret Service and Kingsman: The Golden Circle, though he sat out the prequel, The King's Man.
He has revealed that he expects to return to shooting for a third Eggsy outing in 2023.
"My understanding is that we are to be shooting the third installment in my saga I believe next year," he said on the Jess Cagle Podcast with Julia Cunningham.
"But you know, don't listen to what I say because I really don't know. You know, they're grown-up decisions."
