Christina Ricci finds it difficult to watch one of her most iconic roles as Kat Harvey in Casper as she believes her performance in the movie is "terrible".
A child actor, Ricci made appearances in the likes of Mermaids and two The Addams Family movies before earning her first lead role in Casper, which tells the story of a young girl and her widowed father who move into an old mansion and encounter a young, friendly ghost, as well as his not-so-friendly uncles.
It was a commercial success, earning $287 million on a budget of $55m and has gained a cult following over the years.
It may be beloved by some, but Ricci isn't a fan of her portrayal of Kat.
“If you actually watch Casper, I’m terrible in it,” she said in WTF With Marc Maron.
“People get so upset when I say that. Because I’m like, ‘No, it’s a wonderful movie.’ Because it’s a childhood treasure to people. But I am terrible in it.
“I was 13. There was a lot going on in my life. Everything was very difficult. I was just always annoyed, and I just don’t think I tried very hard, to tell you the truth. Embarrassingly, I have to say, I don’t think I tried as hard as maybe I should have.”
Wednesday
Another of Ricci's most famous roles is as Wednesday Addams in the two Addams Family movies which were released in 1991 and 1993.
Wednesday has a gothic personality, is extremely cynical and is obsessed with death. Ricci gained acclaim for her performance.
The Addams Family will soon be seen in a reboot of sorts of the story with the upcoming series, Wednesday.
Jenna Ortega replaces Ricci in the role, though it was reported that the latter will actually appear in the Netflix show in some capacity.
“Jenn is incredible,” Ricci told Variety about her co-star.
“It’s such a great modern take on Wednesday. It’s so true tonally to the heart and soul of , but it’s then it’s incredibly modern and it’s great. I loved working with Tim .”
