Calling Philo Vance plot
Philo Vance, a US government investigator, is in Vienna to check if Archer Coe sells aircraft designs to foreign powers. Vance wants to take the documents with Archer's signature, but he is captured by the police before he can escape. After an interrogation, Vance is sent back to America and wants to confront Archer with the documents, but Archer is found dead in his bedroom with a gun in his hand. Although it looks like a suicide, Vance doesn't believe it and the coroner determines that Archer had been beaten with a blunt object and stabbed before he was shot. This makes suicide unlikely and Vance will investigate further with this information
