Reluctantly, Marvin Feldmann has to travel to the Finnish island of Föglö for his extremely unusual job as a record observer, where 12-year-old Elias can bounce a rock 52 times on the water's surface. The attempt fails and Marvin immediately wants to return. The islanders, especially Elias's beautiful and temperamental Aunt Fanny, want to change Marvin's mind so that he gives Elias a second chance...
